Frequently asked questions

Does the viewer need to install an app?

No. The AR viewer runs directly in the phone's browser — Safari on iPhone, Chrome on Android. People just scan the QR code or tap the link; there's nothing to download or install.

Which phones and browsers are supported?

The viewer targets modern mobile browsers: recent iOS Safari and recent Android Chrome. Those are the two we actively test against during the beta. Older browsers or unsupported combinations fall back to a plain video, so the content is never completely unreachable.

Does ZMediaAR see or store camera footage?

The viewer uses the camera only to track the printed marker in real time, on the device itself. ZMediaAR does not record, upload, or store camera footage — the video feed never leaves the phone.

What image works best as a marker?

High-contrast, detailed, non-repetitive images printed on matte paper track best. Glossy paper, plain colors, and repeating patterns make tracking less reliable. The how-it-works page has the full breakdown with examples.

What video formats and sizes are supported?

MP4 files encoded with H.264 video, up to 50 MB, which is what most phones and video editors export by default. We may widen this as the beta continues.

How much does ZMediaAR cost?

It's free while we're in beta — up to 5 published experiences per account, with the video size limit above. Paid plans are planned for later, once the beta wraps up.

Do I need an account to create an experience?

Yes, a free account with email sign-in (no password — you get a one-time link by email). Viewers who scan your marker never need to sign in or create an account.

Can I update the video after I've printed the marker?

Yes. The marker image and the video behind it are linked but stored separately, so you can swap the video at any time without reprinting the marker.

What happens if the camera can't find the marker?

The viewer shows a short hint asking the person to hold the image flat, get closer, or improve lighting. If tracking still can't start, the experience can fall back to playing the video on its own.

Is my data safe during the beta?

We take reasonable precautions, but the product is actively being built and tested, so we recommend not uploading anything sensitive or irreplaceable yet. See the privacy page for details, and note that it's currently a beta-stage draft.
